The past couple of weeks have been busy at the Longview Gallery and we wanted to share exciting updates with you, including some firsts!
We’d like to look back at “Casting Nets, Chasing Squirrels: A Self-Study in Focus & Productivity” by artist and teacher Andrew J Snyder. The exhibit was on display at our gallery during the hot months of July and August.
The exhibit, masterfully installed by Andrew himself, included a wide range of work from ceramic bowls to large canvases and clay monoprints.
We enjoyed a wonderful opening reception on July 6th, followed by a midshow reception with live music on the 1st Saturday of August.
We loved having Andrew’s work fill our gallery space for eight weeks. It seemed natural, as if the work and the gallery were meant to exist together.
This is our hope for every show - that the space and art create an organic relationship which bring out one another’s unique characteristics.
1st Artist Demo
On the final Saturday before takedown, Andrew Snyder held a live demonstration to celebrate the closing of the show. He showcased The East Main Hand Wheel, a hand-powered potter’s wheel that he built (you can read more in the Studio Potter Journal).
Andrew demonstrated his process throwing various-sized plant potters, while enlightening us about the disappearing art behind this wheel and why he prefers it to the standard electric one.
In an increasingly fast paced world, the hand-powered wheel presents an opportunity to slow down and be more intentional about what we create and how we do it.
The demo then turned into a delightfully impromptu Q&A with the artist, going in-depth about the inspirations, themes, and patterns throughout the exhibit.
This was the 1st time we held an artist demo at the Longview Gallery! We are grateful to Andrew for his willingness and enthusiasm to put something together. We’d like to continue having events similar to this, so be sure to keep an eye out!
Record Sales
Continuing on the theme of firsts, the gallery saw record sales for Andrew Snyder’s exhibit! We want to thank everyone who bought one of his pieces.
It is because of your support that we can sustain our dreams of building a local community on this little farm in Chester Springs.
If you didn’t get the chance to buy something during the show and are interested, this is a reminder that we have an online shop here with all 2024 exhibiting artists’ work.
Thanks for being a part of our community!
See you soon x
