Embracing Year of Yin | Inspiration, Design Process & Our Hope
Explore transformative themes through art.
Welcome to the Year of Yin at the Longview Gallery!

The gallery’s theme for 2025 is centered around Yin—commonly known to represent the feminine in the Yin/Yang relationship and the moon in the Sun/Moon dichotomy.
Associated with words like intuition, circularity, feeling, flow, and receptivity, yin invites us to tap into feminine energy and embark on a transformative journey.
Hear from our Graphic Designer
Our in-house graphic designer, Emilee Waltz, is the creative powerhouse behind The Longview Farm and Gallery’s visuals across multiple platforms. She has worked diligently behind the scenes since January to conceptualize, design, revise, and finalize the layout for the gallery’s marketing and promotional materials.
Designing this year's collection has been inspiring, as it embodies the powerful energy showcased at the gallery. When creating the layout for the Year of Yin poster, I knew that featuring all the artists together would create a harmonious blend.

As evidenced, Emilee has worked on a plethora of promotional materials for the five art exhibits that we feature this year. The consistent bold, white lettering, font, and artwork background—individual to each artist—are key features of the design.
Additionally, here are some of Emilee’s merchandise designs for the Longview Farm & Gallery. We are looking forward to sharing physical merchandise with you very soon!

A special moment came towards the end when my design layout made the works of all six artists feel cohesive through thoughtful placement, color, and imagery. The key feature was splitting the grid and using the artwork as the background for the word 'YIN,' creating a dynamic look and feel while ensuring each artist's work is equally highlighted.

We are thrilled to present a lineup of women and nonbinary artists for 2025. Emilee and I worked together designing the Upcoming Exhibits | The Longview Gallery page. This showcases the artists’ bios, headshots, calendars with exhibit dates, and more.
Our Hope
In the Chinese Lunar Zodiac, 2025 is the year of the Yin-Wood Snake. The snake embodies a calm, knowing energy that encourages growth at both the personal and collective levels.
The Year of Yin invites us, as an arts community, to journey inward toward self-discovery, inner strength, and personal resolve. The exhibits will encourage reflection on identity, the collective, and the impact of our choices. The art will inspire thoughts about courage and resilience, challenging viewers to deeply consider how to fortify as a community and prepare for changes ahead.

We hope to provide a space for quiet contemplation and transformation, allowing visitors to explore pressing themes and ultimately find balance between their inner self and the surrounding world.
Partnerships
This year we are partnering with Dr. Huebner, Director of the Women’s & Gender Studies Collection, to facilitate presentations, discussions, and other activities that integrate exhibiting artists’ work with key themes of women’s and gender studies.

In addition to our regularly scheduled opening and midshow receptions for each exhibit, we are encouraging artists to participate in artist talks and other activities.
Join us at the Longview Gallery during the Year of Yin! We look forward to sharing these moments with you.
We have events on every 1st Saturday of the month, featuring either an opening reception or live music. These events are free, BYOB, and open to everyone—kids and dogs included!
