Well, we are celebrating the halfway point of the exhibition this coming Saturday (April 4th) at 5pm! This mid-show reception, in particular, will be very special.

There will be an artist talk and Q&A followed by music. But not just any music—the music of the artist himself. Leroy used to DJ and occasionally still makes beats/artful sounds when he has the time, so we could not miss the opportunity to request a performance.

And I have a feeling there will be impromptu dancing—so please come out and join us! From 5pm to 8pm. Bring your kids, bring your family, bring your friends.

The Brink (2025)

The artist’s description:

“In his book Hyperobjects, Timothy Morton discusses human ecology at the end of the world. The reality of the situation unfortunately means we are at the literal brink. While this precipice isn’t perceived to be one with a vision of hope at the end, like those before, we do still have the power to change things. Simply giving up is not how humans made it to this point.

We have knowledge those before us did not have, combined with the wisdom from observing their experiences. That is the power needed for a breakthrough.”

New World Water (2025)

The artist’s description:

“There are places were TB’s common as TV / Cause foreign-based companies go and get greedy / The type of cats who pollute the whole shore line / Have it purified, sell it for a dollar twenty-five.

Still entirely relevant, this painting was inspired by a 1999 song by hip-hop artist Mos Def (Yasiin Bey).”

On Saturday, Leroy David Nunery III will talk a bit about his art and process; there will be opportunity to ask him questions or make observational comments about the exhibition.

A week ago, we had the opening reception for Hyperobjects—a solo exhibition by Leroy David Nunery III. We are thrilled to host this body of work as Leroy’s first official solo exhibition. Not only is he an abstract painter, but also a teacher, sculptor, and occasional musician.

Hyperobjects is a collection of abstract works created by the artist in 2025 and 2026. The artist names two primary inspirations: Timothy Morton’s Hyperobjects: Philosophy and Ecology after the End of the World, and the Afrofuturistic perspectives of Sun Ra and his Arkestra.

“Some of these works may be thought of as glimpses of moments in a frenetic time, a present somehow neatly captured. The present in its current form, like the past, may not always make sense to everyone. What matters now more than ever though, is how we all imagine and see the future…”

If you missed the opening, we are having a midshow reception on April 4th! Leroy used to DJ and make his own music, so he has agreed to be the performer for his mid-show reception—in his words: “I will make some artful noises in the space.”

We are delighted to announce our second solo exhibition of 2026: “Hyperobjects” by Leroy David Nunery III.

Leroy David Nunery III is a multi-talented individual—painter, sculptor, teacher, musician—whose work merges gestural mark‑making with atmospheric color fields to create abstractions that shift between motion, tension, and perception.

He holds a B.A. in Sociology from University of Pennsylvania and an M.F.A. from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA). Before returning to his studio practice, Leroy spent fifteen years in the corporate world working as a graphic designer and web developer.

He has exhibited at PAFA, as well as Moody Jones Gallery (Glenside, PA). Additionally, he participated in the Men, Masculinity, and Love exhibition (2025) at Camden FireWorks (Camden, NJ), and was featured in the PXV Art Mag Issue No.7. His work “Opticks” is featured in the permanent holdings at PAFA.

Leroy David Nunery III creates compositions that feel both spontaneous and intentional. His palette shifts from muted neutrals to vibrant purples and heat‑soaked oranges, while his forms dissolve and reassemble across the canvas like traces of thought or memory.

The apparent randomness of my abstractions is subconsciously influenced by my daily life. We often dream of realities that are considered “unrealistic” despite the information being fed to us from entirely real experiences and scenarios.

“Hyperobjects” draws inspiration from Nunery’s graduate research—particularly the writings of Timothy Morton, who has a book titled the same way. For Nunery, this word/title encompasses themes of space and time, coexistence, and the shifting nature of human perception.

We are so pleased to display a collection of Leroy David Nunery III’s paintings and sculptures for the months of March and April. Join us to celebrate this art and art.

Thank you so much for gathering on Sunday. It was encouraging to meet likeminded individuals in Chester County who do not agree with what is happening in this country. We weren’t sure if anyone besides our inner circle would show up, and then you all did!

Thank you to for posting in the Indivisible Facebook group and offering his property as a space for collective grieving and mutual care. Thank you to Patrick Seyler for leading the vigil.

Thank you for bringing yourselves out on a Sunday afternoon, for lighting a candle in honor of Renee Good, and for being vulnerable with the group.

From gallery exhibitions to first-time workshops, let’s take a look back at highlights from 2025!

January | Hannah Zartman’s Solo Exhibition

In January and February, we hosted our first exhibition of 2025 titled “Toward a Tender Place.” The artist, Hannah Zartman, is a West Chester University alumnus who specializes in relief printing processes and was our youngest exhibiting artist to date!

February | Artist Talk & WCU Collab

We organized an Artist Talk for the closing day of Hannah Zartman’s exhibition. We partnered with Dr. Lisa Huebner, professor at West Chester University and Director of The Women’s & Gender Studies Collection. A recording of Hannah’s artist talk is available to watch here.

March | Raven George’s Solo Exhibition

On the 1st Saturday in March, we celebrated the opening of “Wildflower Joy,” a solo exhibition by Trenton-based artist Raven George. Inspired by the landscapes of her childhood, the intricacy of human experiences, and spirituality, George’s art reflects on shared vulnerability.

April | Artist Talk on Earth Day

On April 26th, we celebrated two things: Raven George’s artist talk and Earth Day. Raven George gave a beautiful talk, and the audience embraced her with gentleness. A recording of Raven’s artist talk is available here.

We then commenced our 1st Annual Earth Day Celebration with sessions of yoga and qigong, followed by communal music-making, and concluding with a stroll around the property.

May | Shayna Parker’s Solo Exhibition

May brought our 3rd exhibition of the year: “Pushing Up Daisies” by Shayna Parker. Shayna’s paintings are chromatic and whimsy, combining abstract elements with realism. She utilizes color blocking and layering to create depth through dynamic composition.

June | Second Artist Talk

In June, we continued our artist talk series with Shayna Parker. During these talks, artists were given free range to discuss whatever they desired without being guided by a facilitator. A recording of Shayna’s artist talk is available here.

Nocino Crafting Workshop

Then, at the end of June, we started our Nocino Crafting workshop—the first for Longview Farm! We harvested walnuts around the property and put them in jars to marinate with grain alcohol, cloves, cinnamon, coffee beans, lemon peel, and all spice.

July | Intergenerational Exhibition

This was the first time we had three generations of artists in the same exhibition. Not just any artists, but women of the same family—Kiya Nicole, Miho Kahn & Eiko Kahn. Encapsulating a hundred cumulative years of work, this was the first time their work had been shown together in a gallery. “Kami” was a very special show that we were honored to display.

Plein-Air Painting Workshop

Also in July, artist Alexis Bocelli led an outdoor painting workshop on the farm! The result was an acrylic landscape painting, capturing the cool blues of a hazy summer evening. Thank you to for getting plenty of amazing footage of the artist in action.

September | Triple Vision

In September, we welcomed our 2nd group exhibition: “Triple Vision” by abstract artists Barbara Shelly, Denise Sedor & Laurie Lamont Murray. This was a special show celebrating friends and colleagues—the artists have known each other for over a decade.

Celebration Fest

The 2nd Annual Celebration Fest was in September, welcoming friends and family to the farm for an afternoon of live music, potluck, and an Oak-planting ceremony dedicated to Ilya Lehrman’s late grandmother.

October | Final Artist Talk

October brought our 2025 artist talk series to a close, concluding with the artists of “Triple Vision.” Shelly, Sedor, and Murray discussed their respective backgrounds as artists and humans, guided primarily by the audience’s questions.

November | 2nd Annual Holiday Exhibit

In November, our 2nd Annual Holiday Exhibit opened. We partnered with 3 arts organizations—Chester County Art Association, Aston Mills Arts, and Haverford Guild of Craftsmen—to display select works of 30 artists. This number also included exhibiting artists of Longview Gallery. It was a successful show!

Black Friday Market

We planned a small art market on Black Friday to encourage our community to shop locally this season and support small businesses and artists. Four vendors set up booths inside the gallery. Visitors could shop from vendors and/or the Holiday Exhibit.

Mayan Fire Ceremony

Our friend and colleague, Patrick Seyler, planned a Mayan Fire Ceremony in November to initiate the Mayan calendar year. Shaman Harold E. Smith led a sacred sound initiation with various instruments and Mayan spiritual guide Genaro Jacinto led the transformative fire ritual.

December | Winter Gathering

To honor the Winter Solstice and close out the year, we hosted a small potluck gathering on December 19th, led by Patrick Seyler, to express gratitude for 2025 and set intentions for 2026. The candle formation represents the sun in the middle and the 12 months around it.

For those who don’t know, Ricky Eller and I started a workshop series earlier this year focused on crafting nocino (black walnut liqueur) from scratch using sustainable ingredients and walnuts harvested on Longview Farm’s property.

We harvested the walnuts on June 22nd—the weekend of the Summer Solstice—as the Italian traditions and folklore recommend. We strained the various batches one month later, then left them to age for six months.

This was our first time conducting this homesteading experiment, so we didn’t know what to expect. The nocino mixtures were ready for bottling this past Sunday on the Winter Solstice.

In addition to bottling, we had a taste of each batch. Some varieties have notes of cinnamon and coffee, while others have notes of orange and all spice.

This is our first official Longview Farm product made with resources from the property which is very exciting! It’ll be shared with friends and family.

This nutty liqueur with herbal undertones is a great wintertime drink. As a digestif, the traditional Italian way to enjoy nocino is sipping it out of a small glass—perhaps paired with a dessert.

However, there are also some interesting cocktail recipes to enjoy.

Nocino Manhattan

A complex and slightly bitter twist on a classic.

• 2 oz Brandy

• 1 oz Nocino/Walnut Liqueur

• 2 dashes Black Walnut Bitters

Stir ingredients with ice and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a cherry.

Nut Bunny

An original cocktail with autumnal forests on the mind.

• 1 1/4 oz bourbon

• 1/2 oz nocino/walnut liqueur

• 1/2 oz lemon juice

• 3 dashes walnut bitters

• Rosemary or lemon peel for garnish

Combine all ingredients with ice and shake. Strain into an old fashioned over ice. Garnish with rosemary or lemon peel.

Nocino Alexander

A decadent and slightly retro winter treat.

• 2 oz spiced rum

• 1 oz nocino/walnut liqueur

• 3/4 oz cream

• 1/4 oz simple syrup

• 1 pinch cinnamon or grated nutmeg for garnish

Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with cinnamon or grated nutmeg.

Now that we have a trial run under our belts, we plan to repeat this nocino-crafting workshop in 2026! Stay tuned for details in the new year.

We are delighted to announce Longview Gallery’s first solo exhibition of 2026, taking place in January & February. It is titled “The Silence Between” by Moones Zeydabadi.

Moones Zeydabadi is an Iranian visual artist with an MFA in Painting from the University of Delaware whose work explores the human condition through subtle psychological states, intimate gestures, and quiet moments of endurance.

Zeydabadi often paints women as extensions of herself, blending art historical references with contemporary experience to reflect on womanhood, memory, and perception. Womanhood is the experience she feels most equipped to express.

I’m chasing the quiet moments when reality seems slightly off, like recognizing a stranger’s face. The women I paint are composites of myself, forms of self-portraiture that exist between presence and absence. They are awake yet dreaming with open eyes. They wait, they make, they endure.

Working primarily with the fluidity and transparency of oil paint, Zeydabadi’s creative process is a layered and intuitive one. This process reveals to her how vulnerability and strength can coexist within the everyday.

“I work through thin veils of color, glazing, wiping, and reworking the surface until an image begins to emerge through little moments that are witnessed, lived, and then reimagined in paint.”

Moones Zeydabadi has exhibited her work in solo and group shows both in the United States and internationally in Canada, Italy, Iran, and Chile. She is the recipient of multiple film and visual art awards recognizing her multidisciplinary practice and has appeared in several international publications.

We are so pleased to display Moones Zeydabadi’s artwork for the months of January and February. The opening reception for “The Silence Between” is on Saturday, January 3rd from 5pm to 8pm. Light refreshments will be served, byob.

It’s been a little while! Apologies for my radio silence—I was busy spending the beginning of November in California with my adorable 10-month-old niece. It’s an amazing experience being a first-time Auntie.

Enough about me—there are multiple art-related updates to share, so I’m excited to get right into it!

November is in full swing, and the weather is turning chilly. We’re quickly approaching the cozy season of hot cocoa, thick sweaters, gift-giving, twinkling lights, and pine aromas.

Here at Longview Gallery, we’ve welcomed our seasonal exhibit into the space. Before we dive into the details, here is a recap on some recent events from the past month that weren’t covered yet.

“Triple Vision” Recap

Our previous exhibit, Triple Vision, came to a close at the end of October. We enjoyed hosting these select artworks by Barbara Shelly, Denise Sedor, and Laurie Lamont Murray in our gallery for two months.

During this exhibition, we had a great opening reception in September followed by a midshow reception in October that featured an Artist Talk and live music. We also had some visitors during our Sunday afternoon hours!

It is always a bittersweet moment when a show comes down.

Bitter because we grow attached to the art over two months and the way it reimagines our gallery space. Sweet because the ending of one show means we get to welcome our following artist(s).

“Triple Vision” closed out our Year of Yin programming. This year, LVG featured all female & nonbinary artists ranging in age and background!

Visiting a Kindred Neighbor

You may have heard about or visited Warwick Furnace Farm before—a family-owned picturesque lavender farm in the heart of Historic Chester County. They have an onsite farm store and a gallery where they host rotating exhibitions.

We had the pleasure of meeting part of the WFF family at our gallery reception in October. We were invited to an opening reception they were hosting just a couple of weeks later on the 17th.

Ilya, Jessi, and Liliya attended the event and had a great time! It was their first time visiting Warwick Furnace Farm.

The opening was for a group exhibition titled “Anna’s Oak.” In collaboration with French & Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust, the show honors the memory of a 350-year-old oak tree that fell in 2024—believed to have been the oldest oak in Chester County.

Artists were asked to transform physical materials from the fallen tree into artworks—45 pieces of art by 30+ artists. What a special way to honor this tree’s long life!

We identify deeply with their mission to blend the arts and conservation efforts in many of the same ways we are at Longview Farm. I can’t believe they’re only 10 minutes away from our home. We’re happy to share this moment with our new friends and neighbors at Warwick Furnace Farm.

2nd Annual Holiday Exhibit

And just like that…our seasonal Holiday exhibition is now underway!

Thanks to everyone who came to the opening reception on November 1st and stayed after for bonfire and dancing. We hope you had a lovely time.

This year we partnered with three arts organizations—Chester County Art Association, Aston Mills Arts, and Haverford Guild of Craftsmen—to display select works of 30+ local artists. This also includes the past and future exhibiting artists of Longview Gallery.

When I say the gallery is full of gems I’m not exaggerating. We have approximately 150 incredible pieces, ranging in size, medium, price, and function.

Handmade creations make meaningful holiday gifts. There is a special feeling when purchasing and receiving an artisan product—likely one-of-a-kind—that places like Amazon cannot recreate.

The gallery is now open on weekdays during November and December: 2-5pm & Sundays 12-3pm. No appointment needed, just stop by to browse and shop—plus we have complimentary coffee and tea.

The green stuff of summer makes way for the dried stuff of fall and suddenly I am the kind of person who has seed pods, acorn nuts, leaves, and deadheaded flowers in my pockets.

State of the Farm Update

Below is Ricky Eller’s entry for October 2024 in his conservation journal, State of the Farm. Below that is my op-ed about the field agent that makes mention of, entitled Finding Mike (after Lili’s favorite movie, Finding Dory).

Finding Mike

Last year we were excited to meet USDA Field Agent, Mike Zuk, this year we cannot find him anywhere. That’s because like so many other government employees, Mike is no longer a field agent with the USDA …because he’s no longer employed by our tax dollars …because our tax dollars aren’t being used to help small farms like ours secure funding to protect and restore our natural lands…because there is no funding available for environmental conservation for local farms like ours. Why? Because the men in charge said so.

What was a very real and exciting prospect for our farm’s sustainability efforts to get a big jolt forward is now a quiet hope holding out for the next few years.

More than the funding itself is the vast amount of knowledge and enthusiasm that Mike had about the programs that we were excited to leverage, with or without federal subsidies. I intended to reach out to Mike directly, but our team has found him to be MIA from his work email and online. If I know anything from growing up in rural Lancaster County, it’s that it’s a small world; someone you know probably knows Mike or someone who knows Mike.

Help us in finding Mike. If you see him, tell him we still have a job to do at Longview Farm.

Stay Alive & Get Outside

Speaking of finding people, you can find making a name for himself on Tiktok. It all started with a video of Aaron IDing yellow jackets in our woods (after a few stings), then he was stung all over again Yellow Jackets gifs in the comments. 4k views later, and the Yellow Jacket’s video was viral. You’re invited to the opening reception of Longview Gallery’s 2nd Annual Holiday Exhibit.

In the blink of an eye, October has come to an end. We’ve been hard at work preparing the holiday show and we’re so excited to show you the results on Saturday!

Last year, we partnered with two outside arts organizations—Chester County Art Association and Aston Mills Arts—to display the work of 30 local artists. This number included the exhibiting artists of Longview Gallery, as well as a few member artists from our own startWorks.

This year we’re so pleased to add Haverford Guild of Craftsmen to the list!

The 2nd Annual Holiday Exhibit will include creations from 30+ local artists and makers. There will be a variety of 2D art, ceramics, fused glass, jewelry, postcards, and more.

Around this time of year, people start thinking about holiday gifts. Come on out to Longview Gallery to browse the “booths” and perhaps make a purchase. By doing that, you support both small businesses and hardworking artists.

1st Saturday in November!

Since the opening reception falls on Halloweekend, we’re making it a costume party (encouraged but not required). If you haven’t been invited to any costume parties this year, here is your chance! Following the reception (5pm to 8pm) there will be a bonfire after-party, so stick around.

This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided, BYOB if you please.

If you can’t make it this weekend, the 2nd reception for the holiday show will be on Saturday, December 6th—with live music! Mark your calendars now.

For those who aren’t aware, Longview Farm’s tagline is “Human, Art, Earth.” There is a weekly blog series called Longview Alive! which highlights nature and land management at LVF - the “Earth” pillar.

Rather than produce individual, on-demand posts for Longview Gallery event announcements, artwork spotlights, behind-the-scenes, and other updates, I’ll consolidate the information into this bi-weekly newsletter! This will make up the “Art” pillar.

We hope you enjoy this new format. Without further ado, let’s get right into it.

Oct 4th | Artist Talk & Live Music Recap

First up: we had a great 1st Saturday event on October 4th! It was the Midshow Reception for “Triple Vision”—the gallery exhibition for September and October.

We had the pleasure of hearing from the three exhibiting artists—Barbara Shelly, Denise Sedor & Laurie Lamont Murray—and invited the audience to ask questions and make comments on the art.

These women are abstract artists who use a range of mediums and have varying levels of professional experience. While representing distinct styles, the art of these friends creates an interesting visual story.

It was an insightful conversation, with the artists sharing their respective backgrounds and relationships to artmaking. Particularly, what art has allowed them to express and discover about themselves.

After the artist talk, we enjoyed live music outside in the field by Dave Loves Donna, a local duo who play both covers and original songs.

Connections were made, dancing was done, and laughter was shared. Thank you to everyone who visited.

One of my personal highlights of the night was meeting our lovely neighbors from Warwick Furnace Farm. I had heard about their gem many times—a family-owned lavender farm in Chester County—so I’m very happy to finally make that connection.

Triple Vision | Artwork Spotlights

Since “Triple Vision” is a group exhibition that includes over thirty pieces, it’s important to dedicate time to highlight each artist and their work throughout the course of the show. Over on Instagram I’ve been posting artwork/artist spotlights, but it is only brushing the surface.

2026 Artist Lineup

Believe it or not: it will be 2026 before we realize it. And while the current state of our country and the world is unsettling at best, we do have our communities to rely on. For us, one of those communities revolves around the arts.

Our 2026 gallery calendar is filling up, and we’re looking forward to sharing the artist lineup with you all soon.

What I am able to share right now is that the theme for 2026 is “Year of Dreams.” There will be five solo exhibitions, each lasting two months, followed by our Annual Holiday Exhibit.

For now, that is all I’ll reveal. Stay tuned for more details!

Upcoming | Call for Artists

“Triple Vision” is on display for just a few more weeks (open Sundays 12 to 3pm!) and then we’ll be setting up our 2nd Annual Holiday Exhibit.

Last year, we partnered with two outside arts organizations—Chester County Art Assocation and Aston Mills Arts—to display the work of 30+ local artists. This included the exhibiting artists of Longview Gallery, as well as some members from our very own startWorks.

This event is more like an artisan market than a gallery exhibit. It is specifically geared toward holiday shopping and includes both fine art and crafts.

Almost every week during last year’s exhibit, we saw visitors coming into the gallery to browse the booths!

For our 2nd Annual Holiday Exhibit, we’re still looking for artists and artisans. Particularly with the following products: jewelry, textile & fiber arts, ceramics, woodwork, metalwork, glass art, sculptures, artisan goods (soaps, candles) etc.

Dogwood buds, blue spruce berries, devil’s tomato and green holly berries are signs that autumn has arrived in full swing.

Goldenrod fades and seed pods scatter as fallen black walnut hucks oxidize and easily smash to reveal their prized walnuts inside.

🧺 This week’s recreational activities

Aaron’s conservation and beautification efforts continue with trail maintenance and a leaf blower. I was also out in the yard this week, rake in hand, adding black walnut sludge to reinforce the mulched areas to hopefully control invasive growth.

Our rogue compost garden continues to surprise us with squash babies and ripening tomatoes every time we stroll by. I cooked up some homegrown green tomatoes and foraged puffball mushrooms this week.

Planting the oak tree that was at the center of our Celebrational ceremony this year felt like a continuation of the moment. I’ve locked in that intention for each return trips to water the oak.

Wood Wide Web

’s role as cohost on the Longview Alive! Series is shifting as he is infusing more of his scientific training into his contributions through primary sources compilation and nerding out.

“While investigating a particular reforestation method, the idea of Wood Wide Web was introduced. This is the way trees communicate among themselves through their root systems. Very interesting.” - Aaron

Very nerdy. We’re excited to see how Aaron’s voice evolves as the research he compiles and the data he collects around Longview Farm starts to paint a picture of its own.

Spooky Season Identified

I may be a novice nature guide, but I think I know when spooky season has arrived.

Our homegrown pumpkins were picked and placed as table decorations for this Saturday’s Celebration Festival.

The indoor plants got a facelift and feature too in their new homes in Andrew Snyder’s pots circa 2024.

Conservation Efforts

Moving into Fall, we will be concentrating our efforts to remove the remaining invasive species from the Longview Farm property. The main species include poison ivy, Tree of Heaven, Sweet Gum, multiflora rose, and burning bush.

Establishing a clear trail system in the woodlot, ensuring the safe passage through our forest with weekly upkeep of paths, and the installation of trail markers are all on Aaron’s to do list.

Our Earth Focus

We have focused our attention on the Earth for this Longview Alive series to reflect our deepening commitment to environmental storytelling, community resilience, and ecological restoration.

With these ideals in mind, friends and family gathered on Saturday for Longview Farm’s 3rd Annual Celebration.

Oak Tree for Babushka

The highlight of the event was an oak tree planting ceremony where participants paid their respects through reflection and a moment of silence to honor Ilya Lehrman’s grandmother, Babushka Zinaida, who spent her final years calling Longview Farm home.

Earth is in the House

House Cup that is. As the new Experience Director at inWorks LLC (Ilya’s IT company that co-works out of our gallery), I’ve been devising a “House Cup” for our extended team to really get into our core principles here on the farm - by making houses of each. House Human, House Art and House Earth are all competing through the rest of 2025 for the title of House Cup Champion.

I asked the members of House Earth what their house means to them:

To be grounded in community, nature, and life.

House Mycorra represents the common home we all share, earth, and the connections it supports among us.

Earth - This house provides a space where we can discuss the intricate balance between organic and non-organic forms.

House Earth is already getting into it as a science-y bunch, they gave their house the name Mycorra, meaning they’re all “House of Mushroom.”

No doubt, our resident mycologist and cohost, Aaron Brown, was behind it!

This week, the woods gifted us with honey mushrooms and a young chicken-of-the-woods—a family favorite when fried up. These fungi are not only delicious but also symbolic of the hidden networks that sustain life beneath the surface.

Meanwhile, Canada geese have begun their migration south, and white-tailed bucks are becoming more active as the rut approaches. These seasonal shifts remind us of our place in nature’s cycles.

Aaron Brown has been supporting gig artists with filming and photography, capturing performances and workshops around the farm. 🌱 State of the Farm Reflections

Continuing with the State of the Farm reflections from last week, we have a few more quotes from Ricky Eller from last year’s land consultation with Tyler K from Reviving Wisdom.

Last year’s visit with Tyler K laid the groundwork for many of our current initiatives. We explored:

• Organic methods for managing wisteria, mugwort, and wintercreeper

• Controlled burns to promote native growth

• Permeable driveways and rock gardens for water management

• Hedgerows for privacy and aesthetics

• A designated composting area

• Planting drought-tolerant species

• Addressing deer impact on vegetation

• Exploring hickory nut propagation as a revenue stream

Privacy and landscaping improvements were another focus, with Tyler suggesting planting hedgerows and shrubs to enhance the property's aesthetic appeal. We recognized the necessity of a designated composting area to manage plant waste effectively and discussed environmental changes impacting native plants.

🛡️Our Core Principles

This week marked the first team challenge of our Longview Farm ‘25 House Cup. Our Longview Farm team has been sorted into houses to collaborate on weekly challenges that reflect our core principles of Human, Art, and Earth. In Challenge #1 each team had to make a House Crest that included a house name, motto, mascot, and color palette. Here’s were the final crest ideas:

Human: “Live, Laugh, Love,” obviously—with a duck mascot rocking an “I ❤️ Mom” tattoo.

Art: All about love, expression, imagination, and connection, fluttering together link their mascot: a butterfly.

Earth: Their crest featured a mushroom, oak leaf, and their mascot - a stag - in a peace sign and their moto focused on “Harmony and Restoration.”

Earth House even went so far as to rename themselves House Mycora, after mycorrhizal networks—the underground fungal systems that connect and nourish forests. Their motto? “Forma, Usus, Terra” - meaning, In Harmony, Restoration.
